What OTIS imports from Azure AD
OTIS imports aggregated Microsoft 365 usage data — active user counts per product (Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive), assigned versus active user ratios, and licence utilisation rates. It does not access emails, files, calendar data, or individual user content.
Prerequisites
Your Azure AD app must be configured as multi-tenant. Go to portal.azure.com, navigate to App registrations, select your OTIS app, go to Authentication, and set Supported account types to Accounts in any organizational directory. Save the change.
Step 1: Go to Integrations
In the OTIS dashboard, navigate to Integrations.
Step 2: Connect Azure AD
Click Connect Azure AD. You will be redirected to Microsoft's consent screen. Sign in with a Microsoft account that has admin access to your Azure AD tenant.
Step 3: Grant permissions
Microsoft will show the permissions OTIS is requesting: Reports.Read.All. This grants access to aggregated usage reports only. Click Accept.
Step 4: Run a sync
After connecting, click Sync now. Select the sign-in lookback period (7, 30, or 90 days). The sync pulls usage data for that period and identifies inactive licences.
Understanding the results
The sync returns products found (Microsoft 365 products with usage data) and assets updated (OTIS assets matched to those products with updated user counts). If assets updated is 0, you may not have any Microsoft 365 assets ingested yet — run an intake first to populate the asset list.
